3-DAY MOTORCYCLE TOUR IN ARMENIA

Embark on a three-day journey through Armenia's ancient wonders and breathtaking landscapes. Explore historic sites like Areni and Mozrov, traverse rugged terrain to reach Lake Kari near Mount Aragats, and indulge in scenic views at Saghmosavank monastery. With a total of 564 kilometers covered, this adventure promises unforgettable experiences from start to finish.

  • On the first day, we begin in the capital city Yerevan, riding around town to some interesting and famous locations until everyone is comfortable with the bikes. Then we head south towards Areni in the Vayots Dzor Province famous for its endemic Areni grapes, specific clay barrel wine, prehistoric caves and the 13th century Noravank Monastery. After visiting all of these places, we will go up with an easy level serpentine gravel roads through limestone rocks to the small high mountain village of Mozrov, where we will enjoy the view of Arpa rivers valley below and then finish the day in Hermon, a village where the Yeghegis river flows.

  • On day two, we head north-east from Hermon to a very mystic abandoned Jewish cemetery and then towards Dilijan via Selim Pass and Selim caravanserai (medieval hotel) experiencing breathtaking views at 2140 meters and riding along Lake Sevan, the largest freshwater high-altitude (alpine) lakes in Eurasia. On the way we will have another special stop at Noratus Crosstones with interesting stories and traditions. The next stop is Sevan peninsula with thousands of legends on the top of real but unique stories. In the evening you can spend time in Dilijan, enjoying its small spa town atmosphere, narrow streets of the old center, quaint cafes, restaurants and friendly residents.

  • On the third day, we will ride west towards Armenia’s third largest town Vanadzor, through stunning high altitude alpine grasslands. We then loop around towards Yerevan and ride a very special and tiny zigzag road through infinitely beautiful alpine terrain to Lake Kari(3200m) with a view of Mt. Aragats summits (4095m) one of the highest points in the Armenian Highland. We visit Saghmosavank medieval monastery complex at the bottom of Qasagh river canyon rocks and then head to Yerevan for dinner and goodbyes.

  • On the first day, we begin in the capital city Yerevan, riding around town to some interesting and famous locations until everyone is comfortable with the bikes.   • Day two we head further south, towards Syunik province and visit the Armenian equivalent of the stonehenge, Carahunge or the speaking stones. We then ride through some excellent hairpins/twisties to Tatev, the Devil’s Bridge and lookout point at Harsnadzor which offers you breathtaking views of the 500m gorge.

  • On day three, we head north-east from Goris towards Dilijan via Selim Pass and Selim caravanserai (medieval hotel) experiencing breathtaking views at 2140m and riding along Lake Sevan, the largest freshwater high-altitude (alpine) lake in Eurasia. On the way we will have another special stop at Noratus Crosstones with interesting stories and traditions. The next stop is Sevan peninsula with thousands of legends on the top of real but unique stories. In the evening you can spend time in Dilijan, enjoying its small spa town atmosphere, narrow streets of the old center, quaint cafes, restaurants and friendly residents.

  • The fourth day, we explore the Debed canyon, north-west from Dilijan towards the Georgian border. We will ride along the Debed river, deep in the gorge with its breathtaking views, ascend to the table top settlements above to see ancient (10th-13th century) monasteries at Hagpath and Sanahin, both Unesco World Heritage monuments. On the way back we stop at the Zarni-Parni cave complex with a view of the medieval Kayan Fortress. We then return to Dilijan and head to Apaga resort, north from Dilijan for some offroading, if time and enthusiasm remain. Alternatively, we spend another relaxing evening exploring Dilijan and try a big variety of Armenian traditional sweets: Gata.

  • The next day we drive through infinitely green alpine terrain and head towards the prehistoric cave settlement Khndzoresk, a small village that lies at 1580m above sea level. Apart from the stunning views into the deep gorge, we will explore the caves, learn about the real stories and legends of the civilization that lived in that caves since the Stone Age up to the last century and then head towards Goris to spend the evening exploring similar caves and the vibe of the colorful small town.

  • Day three is another short but exciting ride through some excellent hairpins/twisties to Tatev monastery complex, the Devil’s Bridge (a cave with hot springs inside) and lookout point at Harsnadzor which offers you breathtaking views of the 700m+ deep gorge. We break for the evening at Kapan, a city at the foot of the Khustup mountains that has witnessed Perisan, Ottoman and Soviet histories.

  • On day four we spend time in Kapan riding to the various landmarks like the 10th-11th century monastery, Vahanavank, the 17th century Halidzor Fort and the remains of the Baghaberd Fortress. We then head towards the Iran border, to the town of Meghri, over the Meghri pass where we will be riding at 2353 m, through some of the highest paved roads in Armenia. Here you will enjoy one of the most epic views and high mountain roads of your life.

  • Day five we soak in the contrasting landscape of Meghri that is dominated by gray and brown sand and stone mountains. Then we check out some of the waterfalls on the Meghri river. Access to these might involve some light trekking. We check out the remains of another monastery, Zvaravank and then spend the relaxing afternoon at Tsak Kari Lake before heading back to Kapan for the night.

  • On the sixth day, we head back north-east for a longer ride towards Lake Sevan, the largest freshwater high-altitude (alpine) lake in Eurasia. On the way we visit the Armenian equivalent of the stonehenge, Carahunge or the speaking stones, we learn about 3500 year old petroglyphs and the mystic civilization that has started this unique culture. We then continue riding the mountains of Armenia via Selim Pass and Selim caravanserai (medieval hotel) experiencing breathtaking views at 2140 m.

  • Day seven is almost a rest day with only about 100 km of riding to Dilijan, with its small spa town atmosphere, narrow streets of the old center, quaint cafes, restaurants and friendly residents. We also explore two more monasteries that are different from each other and a pretty interesting architecture and a lake nestled in the mountains, that take us through well maintained roads and shaded twisties that are a pleasure to ride. We will also try a big variety of Armenian traditional sweets: Gata.

  • The next day, we explore the Debed canyon, north-west from Dilijan towards the Georgian border. We will ride along the Debed river, deep in the gorge with its breathtaking views, ascend to the table top/plateau settlements above to see ancient (10th-13th century) monasteries at Hagpath and Sanahin, both Unesco World Heritage monuments. On the way back we stop at the Zarni-Parni cave complex with a view of the medieval Kayan Fortress. We then head along the edge of the table top/plateau that takes us by an ancient village of Odzun towards Stepanavan, on the banks of the Dzoraget river. The arboretum, locally known as the dendropark, is worth a visit.

  • Day nine we head west towards the Turkish border to the second largest city in Armenian, Gyumri. If Yerevan is a city of pink tufa, Gyumri is a city of black tufa. As light riding day awaits us, we first explore Loreberd fort near Stepanavan with breathtaking views and a lake full of water lilies before hitting the road. We explore Gyumri, individually or as a group that day.

  • On our last day we ride to Yerevan where we spend the day exploring the city and saying goodbyes.
